If the preliminary antibody screen is positive, follow up with your local hospital (where the patient will deliver) for antibody identification and indicated follow up testing for patient and infant safety.


Preferred Specimen
Four (4) tubes total:
  • 1 Lavender tube (EDTA) and
  • 1 Pink tube (EDTA) and
  • 2 Gold tubes (gel separator)


Minimum Volume
2 mL each tube


Instructions

Centrifuge for complete separation of serum and red cells. Do not centrifuge lavender or pink tubes.

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Clotted whole blood cannot be accepted.

Clinical Significance
The obstetric panel consists of a group of blood tests commonly performed during the first trimester of pregnancy. These tests can help identify certain problems during the pregnancy and can also guide any treatment needed for the mother or for the baby immediately after birth.
