Preferred Specimen
Four (4) tubes total:
- 1 Lavender tube (EDTA) and
- 1 Pink tube (EDTA) and
- 2 Gold tubes (gel separator)
Minimum Volume
2 mL each tube

Centrifuge for complete separation of serum and red cells. Do not centrifuge lavender or pink tubes.

Clinical Significance
The obstetric panel consists of a group of blood tests commonly performed during the first trimester of pregnancy. These tests can help identify certain problems during the pregnancy and can also guide any treatment needed for the mother or for the baby immediately after birth.
