Preferred Specimen
Whole blood or bone marrow:  collect 1 Lavender tube (EDTA)

Lymph node tissue or any tissue source:  Place tissue sample in sterile container containing RPMI Media

Please note that tissue submitted in sterile saline is stable for 4 hours only

Sodium Heparin will be accepted - do not send Lithium Heparin tube


Instructions

Deliver specimen to laboratory ASAP



Transport Temperature

  • Blood or bone marrow: store at room temperature up to 48 hours

  • Fresh tissue or lymph node: store at 2-8ºC in RPMI media up to 48 hours

  • Body fluid/CSF: store at room temperature up to 24 hours




Specimen Stability

  • Blood or bone marrow: store at room temperature up to 48 hours

  • Fresh tissue or lymph node: store at 2-8ºC in RPMI media up to 48 hours

  • Body fluid/CSF: store at room temperature up to 24 hours




Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Specimen too old for analysis or improperly stored. Irretrievable samples will not be rejected.

Clinical Significance

Fresh tissue, lymph nodes, peripheral blood or bone marrow for suspected acute leukemia (ex. AML, CML, MDS)
