Preferred Specimen
Please send 2-5 slides (≥50mm tissue area) or paraffin block and 1 H&E slide with the area of invasive tumor circled.  Send tissue block to the Molecular department in a red pathology interoffice envelope.

Specimen Stability
Room temperature. Cut slides are stable 60 days. Paraffin blcoks are stored for 10 years.


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
  • Less than 10% tumor cells
  • Decalcified specimens
  • Samples sent frozen

Real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)

Setup Schedule
Batched; 2-3 times per week


Report Available
Report available within 1-3 days of receipt at the performing laboratory.

  • KRAS Mutation Result: Not Detected
  • KRAS Status: Wildtype


Clinical Significance
Aids in treatment decisions in individuals with solid tumors including colorectal and non-small cell lung cancers.
