Bone marrow or whole blood: 1 Green tube (Sodium Heparin)
Note: Heparin choice is Sodium - do not use Lithium heparin

Lymph node or biopsy: RPMI


Minimum Volume
  • Bone marrow 1 mL
  • Whole blood 1 mL
  • Tissue or lymph node 5x5 mm

Transport Temperature
Whole blood or bone marrow:  Room temperature.  Refrigerated samples will be accepted, but not preferred.
Lymph node or tissue:  Refrigerate in RPMI


Specimen Stability
  • Whole blood or bone marrow: 
    • 15-30°C up to 2 days; Refrigerated samples will be accepted, but not preferred.
  • Lymph node or tissue: 
    • 2-8°C in RPMI up to 2 days


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Clotted samples will be rejected.
Irretrievable samples will not be rejected.

Clinical Significance
This FISH assay uses selected markers for regions of chromosomes 11, 12, 13, and 17 that are useful for prognostic assessment in patients diagnosed by B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
