This exam does NOT include cytogenetics or flow cytometry. Includes: Histology paraffin processing and decalcification; pathology interpretation with correlation to CBC done within previous 24 hour period.

Preferred Specimen

Aspirate clot / trochar in 10% Formalin; Aspirate smears and/or touch preps on air dried slides

Other Acceptable Specimens

Aspirate slides prepared from non-anticoagulated syringe; first draw specimen is preferred. Aspirate may be transferred to lavender top EDTA tube. Prepare slides prior to transport.

Room temp or refrigerate up to 24 hours

Clinical Significance

Do not send slides in the same specimen bag as the formalin-filled containers. This exam is useful in the diagnosis of hematologic and/or non hematologic diseases.
