Instructions

Centrifuge for complete separation of serum or plasma and red cells.  Separate and refrigerate until tested.  Must protect from light.
Please note: Samples do not need to be wrapped to protect from light. Samples stored in a dark refrigerator or amber tube can be accepted.

Clinical Significance

Bilirubin is a waste product of the breakdown of rbc's. Before reaching the liver, bilirubin is called indirect. In the liver, bilirubin combines with sugars to create direct bilirubin. High levels of direct or indirect bilirubin may indicate liver problems or hemolysis.
