Message
This test does not require a baseline (fasting) sample.  Draw specimen 1 hour after administering 50g oral glucose (Glucola), or dose specified by physician.

Instructions

Separate serum or plasma from red cells rapidly to minimize the loss of glucose through glycolysis. Refrigerate until tested.

Clinical Significance

Establish the diagnosis of diabetes mellitus in the pregnant patient. This test is the initial screen in the two-step screening approach recommended by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynocology (ACOG).
