Clinical Significance
Procainamide is used to treat a variety of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias. Metabolism of procainamide produces an active metabolite N-Acetylprocainamide (NAPA). The concentration of both procainamide and NAPA levels are monitored to assure adequate therapeutic levels of procainamide are achieved and to avoid toxicity.
