< 50 years: ≤ 162 pg/mL
50 - 75 years: ≤ 311 pg/mL
> 75 years: ≤ 457 pg/mL
An age-independent cutoff of 300 pg/mL can be used to identify ED patients in whom heart failure is unlikely and who need further investigations for non-cardiac causes of symptoms (e.g. dyspnea). As renal dysfunction increases, the concentration of NT-proBNP increases and the relationship between the two should be considered during interpretation.
50 - 75 years: ≤ 311 pg/mL
> 75 years: ≤ 457 pg/mL
