Clinical Significance
This test is used to aid in the diagnosis of syphilis using the reverse algorithm. The algorithm starts with the Treponema pallidum Antibody immunoassay, a treponemal serologic test. If positive, samples will be further tested using RPR, a nontreponemal (lipoidal antigen) serologic test, and if reactive will reflex to titer. T. pallidum positive samples that do not confirm with RPR will be tested by a second treponemal test, Treponema pallidum Particle Agglutination (TP-PA).
