Reptilase Clotting Time : 37700
Test CodeREPTI or 37700
CPT Codes
85635
Instructions
Platelet poor-plasma: Centrifuge light blue-top tube for 15 minutes at approximately 1500g within 60 minutes of collection. Using a plastic pipette, remove plasma, taking care to avoid the WBC/platelet buffy layer and place into a plastic vial. Centrifuge a second time and transfer platelet-poor plasma into a new plastic vial. Plasma must be free of platelets (<10,000/uL). Freeze immediately and ship on dry ice.

Clinical Significance
The Reptilase time is used in the investigation of dysfibrinogenemias and to rule out heparin contamination in conjunction with the thrombin time assay. Prolongation of the Reptilase time indicates an anomaly of fibrinogen, whether qualitative or quantitative. The Reptilase time provides a means of detecting the presence of fibrinogen degradation products, even during anticoagulant treatment.
