Instructions
Peripheral blood in a lavender top (EDTA) tube (4-10 mL). 


Transport Container
The specimen must be received within 36 hours of collection. Do not centrifuge.


Transport Temperature
Room temperature within 36 hours.


Specimen Stability
Lavender (EDTA):  Room temperature: 36 hours; Refrigerated: Unacceptable;  Frozen: Unacceptable


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
<85% Viability for Lymphocytic Subset panels; Centrifuged specimens.

Clinical Significance
The measurement of lymphocyte subsets may be useful in monitoring immunosuppressive therapies and determining the immune status of patients. These quantitative tests are measured out in absolute numbers which are determined from different cell types such as total T-cells, CD4 T-cells, CD8 T-cells, B-cells, and NK cells.  For example, CD4 counts are commonly used for monitoring HIV infected patients
