Instructions
Serum separator tube (SST) or plain red top tube.


Transport Container
Centrifuge the serum separator tube and transport; if a plain red top tube, centrifuge and aliquot 1.0 mL serum (Min. 0.5 mL) into a standard transport tube.


Transport Temperature
Room temperature.


Specimen Stability
Room temperature: 10 days; Refrigerated: 12 days; Frozen: 28 days

Limitations
This test will be performed using the Beckman Coulter chemiluminescent method.  Values obtained from different assay methods cannot be used interchangeably.  CA125 levels, regardless of value, should not be interpreted as absolute evidence of the presence or absence of disease.

< 35 U/mL


Clinical Significance
The CA 125 level can provide prognostic information in the follow-up management of patients with ovarian carcinoma. The assay should be used as an adjunctive test in the management of ovarian cancer patients. CA 125 is not recommended as a cancer screening procedure to detect cancer in the general population.
