Instructions
Aseptically collect material (body fluids; tissue; deep abscesses), do NOT place sample into blood culture bottles [the laboratory will do this when appropriate]. Submit as much sample as possible up to 40 mL; fluid volumes <1 mL or tissue <1 gram may not yield the pathogen. Abscesses: aerobic/anaerobic swab only if other material is not available.

Depending on the source, acceptable containers include: sterile screw capped container, aerobic/anaerobic swab transport system, or anaerobic transport system.. Call laboratory to confirm containers.
