Instructions
Tissue samples: aerobic/anaerobic transport system, sterile screw capped container, or anaerobic transport system.

Prosthesis or component: place in sterile container with gauze moistened with non-bacteriostatic saline to prevent drying.

Clinical Significance
This culture procedure is meant specifically for samples from suspected prosthetic joint infections and spinal implants. Evaluation is for organisms associated with these specimen types, in particular Propionibacterium acnes and coagulase negative staphylococci.
