If culture is positive, CPT code(s): 87088 (each isolate) will be added with an additional charge. Identification will be performed at an additional charge (CPT code(s): 87077 or 87140 or 87143 or 87147 or 87149). Antibiotic susceptibilities are only performed when appropriate (CPT code(s): 87181 or 87184 or 87185 or 87186).
Instructions
Clean Catch Midstream or Catheter:
1. Cleanse the external genitals using the method you prefer.
2. Have the patient pass the first 10-20 mL of urine and then collect a portion of that remaining by urinating into a clean [it does NOT need to be sterile] container.
3. Open the urine collection kit and place the collection tube into the holder.
4. Insert the end of the holder into the urine and push down on the collection tube. Urine will flow into the tube. A minimum of 4 mL of urine is required. If that cannot be provided, see below.
5.Remove the tube from the holder and discard the holder.
6. Submit at Room temperature.
Low volume urine samples:
1. Collect the sample as per above, however, collect into a sterile container and refrigerate at 4 C.
2. The sample must be kept refrigerated and received by our laboratory within 24 hours.

Transport Container
See specimen collection information for submission of urine (Min. 4 mL) in a urine culture transport tube (with preservatives). Submit small volume urines in a sterile screw capped container.

Specimen Stability
Transport as quickly as possible.
