Instructions
Overnight fasting is required.

Lt. blue (3.2% sodium citrate).


Transport Container
Centrifuge light blue-top tube and transfer 1 mL (Min: 0.5 mL) citrated plasma into a standard transport tube.


Transport Temperature
Frozen.


Specimen Stability
Ambient: Unacceptable; Refrigerated: 72 hours; Frozen: 90 days


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Received room temperature.

Clinical Significance
Low levels of fibrinogen are associated with bleeding most commonly secondary to liver disease or Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC). Fibrinogen is an acute phase reactant and thus elevated levels may be associated with inflammation. Increased concentrations are also associated with increased risk of atherosclerosis.
