Instructions
Collect blood into 3.2% trisodium citrate anticoagulant solution 9:1 ratio.
Transport Container
Centrifuge the blood sample at 1500g for 15 minutes within 60 minures of collection. Using a plastic pipette, remove the plasma, taking care to avoid the WBC/Platelet buffy layer and place into a plastic vial. Centrifuge the plastic vial a second time and transfer 1 mL (MIn: 0.5 mL) platelet-poor plasma into a new standard transport tube. Freesze Immediately.

Frozen.

Ambient: Unacceptable; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: 21 days
Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Gross hemolysis.

Clinical Significance
The Fibrin Monomer test is useful in diagnosing disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) or in differentiating DIC from primary fibrinolysis. Fibrin Monomer may be useful in monitoring response to treatment of DIC.
