Plain red top tube or lavender (EDTA) top tube.


Transport Container
Centrifuge tube as soon as possible (within 1 hour of drawn time) and aliquot 1 mL serum or plasma immediately into a standard transport tube (Min: 0.1 mL).


Transport Temperature
Refrigerated.


Specimen Stability
Ambient: 4 days; Refrigerated: 10 days ; Frozen: 29 days


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Gross hemolysis; Gross lipemia.

Low levels of C1q indicate either increased consumption (catabolism) or decreased synthesis.


Clinical Significance
The complement system is critical to the inflammatory response. C1q concentrations may be decreased in patients with acquired angioedema, immune complex induced vasculitis, and concurrent low concentrations of C1 inhibitor, carcinoma, or lymphoma.
