Lavender (EDTA) peripheral blood OR bone marrow (EDTA). Also acceptable:  whole blood or bone marrow in Sodium heparin (green-top tube).


Transport Container
Do not freeze. Transport 4 mL whole blood (Min: 1 mL) OR 3 mL bone marrow (Min: 1 mL).


Transport Temperature
Refrigerated.

Clinical Significance
This DNA-based assay tests leukocytes from blood or bone marrow aspirate for mutations in exon 12 of JAK2, using an advanced DNA sequencing method. These mutations are associated with myeloproliferative neoplasms, particularly polycythemia vera.
