Myoglobin, Urine : 1001826
Test CodeMYOGU : 1001826
CPT Codes
83874
Preferred Specimen
Random Urine in a Myoglobin Transport tube.
Instructions
Immediately after collection of a Random urine, transfer 4 mL urine into a Myoglobin Transport Tube (containing Sodium Carbonate). The Myoglobin Transport tube is available through med fusion Client supply. Freeze the filled Myoglobin transport tube immediately.
4 mL of urine is required to achieve the required pH of urine. More than 4 mL of urine will lower the pH outside acceptable range.
Note: Myoglobin in urine is very unstable unless the pH is between 8.0-9.0

Transport Container
4 mL Random urine submitted in a myoglobin transport tube.
Transport Temperature
Frozen.
Specimen Stability
Preserved urine: Room temperature: 1 hour; Refrigerated: 72 hours; Frozen: 1 month
Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Not received in a Myoglobin Transport Tube; Received room temperature; Received past stabilty; Timed Urine; More than 4 mL urine in Myoglobin Transport tube; pH <8.0
Methodology
Quantitative Electrochemiluminescent Immunoassay
Setup Schedule
Sunday - Saturday at performing Laboratory
Report Available
Within 24 hours (From receipt at performing laboratory)
Limitations
This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by ARUP Laboratories. It has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. This test was performed in a CLIA certified laboratory and is intended for clinical purposes.
Reference Range
0-1 mg/L
Clinical Significance
Patients with urine myoglobin greater than 15 mg/L are at risk of acute renal failure. Usual results are less than 1 mg/L. Results between 1 and 15 mg/L are associated with vigorous exercise, myocardial infarct, mild muscle injury, and other conditions.
