Clinical Significance
West Nile virus is a flavivirus transmitted through arthropods (e.g. mosquitoes). This test is intended as an aid in the diagnosis of West Nile virus infection in patients with clinical symptoms consistent with encephalitis/meningitis. Antibodies induced by other flavivirus infections (e.g. Dengue virus or St. Louis encephalitis virus) may show cross‐reactivity with WNV.
