Instructions

Anal/Vaginal swabs should be collected using BBL Culture Swab Liquid Stuart (single or double). The swab will be inserted into enriched LIM Broth Media by the Molecular Diagnostics Staff. Place specimens in the refrigerated Molecular Diagnostics Rack.

Susceptibility testing is intended for women with beta-lactam allergies.

Refrigerated: 5 days, swab inserted into enriched LIM Broth Media

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)

Non-validated sample type, specimen container not properly labeled, broken specimen container, sample greater than 7 days since collection or frozen sampels.

Methodology
Polymerase Chaing Reaction (PCR) using Hologic Panther Fusion GBS Assay.

Clinical Significance

Samples Positive for GBS by this PCR test will undergo antimicrobiola susceptibility testing.
