Instructions
Sample must be centrifuged within 2 hours of collection. Serum/plasma must be removed from the red cells and put into aliquot tubes following centrifugation.

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Samples drawn in a tube with a separator gel will be rejected. The separator gel may cause falsely lower results.

Hepatotoxic:
     4 hours post-ingestion: >150 ug/mL
     8 hours post-ingestion: >75 ug/mL
     12 hours post-ingestion: >40 ug/mL
Critical value: > 120 ug/mL


Clinical Significance
See Rumack-Matthew Nomogram for overdose interpretation/ treatment guidelines. Acetominophen levels are drawn when toxicity is suspected. In an acute overdose, levels are drawn 4 and 24 hours after presentation. If ingestion was >4 hours before presentation or the time of ingestion is
unknown, levels are drawn immediately. Consider monitoring liver function tests, bilirubin, and PT/INR in cases of acetominophen toxicity.
