Rapid test for influenza A,B and RSV. Test does not test for influenca C. This test does not differentiate Influenza A subtypes. False-negative results may occur if the virus has genomic mutations, insertions, deletions, or rearrangements or if performed very early in the course of the illness.


Preferred Specimen
Nasophryngeal swab placed in UTM (Universal Viral Transport Medium- red cap tube)
Eswab (Amiesliquid)
Sterile Normal Saline (NS).

 



Instructions
Must be collected in transport media specific for the test.

Deliver to Microbiology lab immediately.


Specimen Stability
Ambient: 24 hours    
Refrigerated: 7 days


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Nasal swabs collected on any swab other than those specific for the test will be rejected. Specimens in leaking containers will not be tested. Dry swabs,calcium alginate swabs, samples in bacterial transport systems, and body fluids will not be tested.


Methodology
Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) using Xpert Flu/ RSV XC assay and the Cepheid GeneXpert System.
