Instructions

This test is ONLY for patients on unfractionated heparin treatment. Tube must be filled to etched line to perform testing.

Samples must be centrifuged at 3000 rpm for 10 minutes or using a high speed centrifuge. Platelet poor plasma should be aliquoted into 1 mL aliquots.
Courrier Samples: Freeze within 1 hour of collection. Samples must remain frozen during transport. Any samples that are received thawed are not suitable for testing.

Frozen (two 1 mL plasma aliquots)


Specimen Stability
Ambient: Unstable   Frozen: Freeze plasma in 2 aliquots of 1 mLeach.


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Hemolyzed samples, underfilled tube, or clotted sample

Testing is performed upon receipt in the laboratory.

Unfractionated heparin: Therapeutic range is 0.30-0.70 IU/mL
