Bronchial Alveolar Lavage (BAL) in asterile vial or collection cup 


Minimum Volume
1 mL BAL


Instructions
Cell count only performed if multiple tubes from same collection required to rule out suspected subarachnoid hemorrhage.


Specimen Stability
Ambient: 30 minutes   Refrigerated: 24 hours however significant sample degeneration occurs after 2 hours


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Grossly bloody specimen or excessive mucos in specimen
