Flocked swab placed in 3 mL of BD UVT viral transport media


Instructions

BD UVT viral transport media with flocked swab must be used (Lawson # 100163). Place the frozen swab in the -20 freezer outside of Specimen Processing, there is a rack marked Molecular Diagnostics, frozen samples.

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Non-validated sample types will be sent to a Reference Laboratory. Any other transport media will be rejected. Calcium alginate swabs will be rejected.

Clinical Significance
A positive result indicates the presence of DNA from pertussis or Bordetella parapertussis. A negative result indicates the
absence of detectable Bordetella pertussis or Bordetella parapertussis DNA in the specimen. Testing performed on a 3M integrated cycler
utilizing Focus Diagnostics reagents.
