Preferred Specimen
Induced sputum in a sterile vial or collection cup 


Minimum Volume
Required for Testing: 1 mL induced sputum


Transport Temperature
Ambient: < 1 hour from collection to delivery
Refrigerated: > 1 hour from collection to delivery


Specimen Stability
Stability: Ambient: 1 hour, Refrigerated 24 hours, However significant sample degeneration occurs after 2 hours


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Differential counts will not be performed on specimens with <100 cells or >10% epithelial cells (test will be cancelled) 
Any slides submitted for testing or review must be labeled with two patient identifiers.  Acceptable identifiers include Name, MRN, Birth date, Accession/SID.
