Ruby Inpatient Collections: Syringe Only

Inpatient Collections: One 5 mL dark green top tube or syringe

Outpatient Collections: One 5 mL gold top tube

Instructions
RUBY INPATIENT COLLECTIONS: COLLECT SYRINGE ONLY. DELIVER SPECIMEN TO BLOOD GAS LAB (5TH FLOOR RUBY).
Syringes should not contain air spaces or air bubbles. Anaerobic caps should be used. Citrate in sample and very high doses of heparin
will falsely decrease ionized calcium. Test performed in Blood Gas Lab.

INPATIENT COLLECTIONS (All system labs EXCEPT Ruby): Collect One dark green top tube or syringe

FOR OUTPATIENT COLLECTIONS:  A single gold top tube must be drawn for this and cannot be shared for other testing. Do not open tube until time of analysis. Specimens collected in the outpatient setting will be routed to Quest Diagnostics (test number 306).

Ion Selective Electrode, GEM Premier Analyzer   Reference range: 1.10 - 1.30 mmol/L Critical range: <0.75 or >1.63 mmol/L
