Preferred Specimen
Collect:  Sample MUST be collected in kit provided by Hematology Lab (304-598-4230) or POC Lab.


Patient Preparation
Sample MUST be collected in kit provided by Hematology Lab (34-598-423) or the POC Lab.
Peripheral Draw: Sample MUST be collected with a 21 gauge needle/butterfly and a Blue Top waste tube should be drawn first. Transfer devices must be at least 21 gauge as well. Line collection: Whole blood sample obtained from an indwelling catheter should only be collected after sufficient discard (5mL) has been drawn. If collecting other sample, this test must be collected first. Sample MUST be hand delivered to laboratory. Do NOT send through the pneumatic tube system.  

Blood must be filled to arrow on label.

Sample must be received within 4 hours of collection.

Specimen Stability
Stability: Unstable, transport to lab by hand at room temperature. Testing must be performed within 4 hours ofcollection.


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
 Incorrect tube (not from provided kit), tube not properly filled to black arrow ( over orunder filled can cause rejection), clotted sample, gross hemolysis,no waste tube collected first and specimens sent in the pneumatictube system. Griener Tubes are the onlyacceptable tube for this test. Fill bute to the black line- do notoverfill

Clinical Significance
PRU (P2Y12 Reaction Units) indicates the amount of ADP mediated aggregation specific to the platelet P2Y12 receptor. Values less than
182 PRU are eveidence of a P2Y12 inhibitor effect. Optimal therapeutic and pre-surgical targets have not been established.
Reference Range < 182 PRU: Evidnece of P2Y12 inhibitor effect, 182-335 PRU: Normal individuals not taking P2Y12 inhibitors.
