Preferred Specimen
Scotch tape preparation (see instructions)
NOTE: Clear non-frosted tape must be utilized.


Instructions
Collect specimen in early AM. Place a 1/2 x 3/4 inch strip of clear scotch tape, sticky side out, over one end of a tongue depressor. Hold in place with thumb and finger. Spread buttocks and press against right and left perianal folds, being careful to cover the area between the dry and moist areas, spread tape smoothly with sticky side down on a microscope slide (do not remove tape from slide). Label slide with patient’s name and date of collection. Submit slide to the laboratory in a cardboard slide carrier. Patient should not be active. Specimen should be collected prior to bathing or using the rest room. Care should be taken during specimen collection. The ova are infectious.

Specimens received on any medium other than clear scotch tape. Do not use frosted tape.
