Complete identification and susceptibility testing will be performed on any Gram Negative isolates that screen as resistant to fluoroquinolones. Gram Positive organisms (quinolone susceptible orresistant) are NOT detected by this test.


Preferred Specimen
Culturette swab. Rectal swab collected approximately 1 week (4-21 days acceptable) prior to prostate biospy.


Instructions
This culture is intended as a screen for fluoroquinolone-resistant orgaisms among patients undergoing transrectal prostate biopsy.

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Dry swabs are unacceptable.
