Other Acceptable Specimens
Capped syringe or appropriate anaerobic transport medium. Examples of appropriate anaerobic specimens: sterile tissue, aspirates (collected with a needle and syringe), deep wound specimens collected surgically and transported anaerobically and foreign bodies removed surgically such as valves or metal plates that are then transported anaerobically.

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Anaerobic culture cannot be performed on specimens exposed to atmospheric  oxygen (e.g.Culturette swabs). Routine aerobic culture will be performed on any specimen received on Culturette swabs. The following specimens are not acceptable for anaerobic culture: voided or catheterized urine,swabs from open wounds, drainages, expectorated sputum, tracheal secretions, bronchial washes, bile fluid, stool and swabs from the throat, ear or eye.
