Preparing cover slipped specimens at the bedside, peripheral smear description, marrow aspirate morphology, marrow biopsy, marrow differential, ME ratio, and interpretation. Other tests incluing reticulocyte count,immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, FISH, cytogenetics, and molecular testing will be performed as indicated based on Pathologist review.
Preferred Specimen
One lavender top tube of bone marrow aspirate
Minimum Volume
1 cc bone marrow aspirate and an additional 1 cc for each additional test needed
Instructions
Assisted bone marrow collection must be scheduled in advance with the Hematology Lab at 74230.
Transport to lab should be the same day as collection. Test should be scheduled with the Hematology Lab. Bone marrow aspirate and slides should not be placed in the same bag as a formalin sample due to cross reactivity of formalin and the staining process.
Samples from Outside Locations: The bone marrow aspirate and slides cannot be placed in the same bag as a formalin specimen due to
the cross reactivity with the staining process.
