Clinical Significance
Usually detectable two weeks to two months before clinical symptoms and as little as two weeks after infection. It is usually present for two to
three months. When test is positive, the person tested is infected with Hepatitis B virus. Persistent HBsAg positivity beyond six months
indicates a chronic carrier state or chronic Hepatitis B. This test is performed as a screening test for pregnant women and to look for
infection in donor subjects.
