Clinical Significance
Aids in evaluating patients with clinical signs and symptoms compatible with systemic sclerosis including skin involvement, Raynaud
phenomenon, and arthralgias; can be found in patients with other active connective tissue disease. Antinuclear sub-serology testing is NOT suggested unless a positive immunofluorescence result is obtained on initial ANA testing. Frequency of these antibodies in the non-diseased population is unknown and positivity does not necessarily suggest that a connective tissue disease is present.
