Preferred Specimen
One 3 mL lavender top tube on ice


Minimum Volume
1 mL blood


Instructions
Place sample on ice immediately after collection. Take to lab immediately. Sample must be centrifuged within one hour of collection. Serum/plasma must be removed from the red cells and put into aliquot tubes following centrifugation. 
Required for testing 0.5 mL plasma

Specimen Stability
Highly unstable, must be frozen   Frozen: 10 weeks at -20°C


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Serum or heparinized plasma samples are not acceptable. Specimen not received on ice.
