Preferred Specimen
One 4.5 mL light green top tube on ice
Pediatric: One light green top microtainer on ice.


Other Acceptable Specimens
Dark green top tube on ice.


Instructions
Sample must be centrifuged and plasma separated from cells immediately following collection and stored frozen.

Specimen Stability
Not Stable, blood tube must be placed "immediately" on ice after collection and sent to the laboratory without delay, for centrifugation within 15 minutes of collection.   Refrigerated: 2 hours (plasma removed from the cells immediately following centrifugation)   Frozen: 3 weeks (plasma removed from cells immediately following centrifugation)


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Specimen not received on ice will be rejected. Samples with gross hemolysis.
