Instructions

Moisten speculum with water, not lubricant. Specimens will be cultured for Listeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus aureus only if specifically requested.

Specimen Stability

Hold at room temperature prior to transporting to laboratory. Due to the lability of N.gonorrhoeae, swabs should be transported to lab as quickly as possible.

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)

Dry swabs and specimens that have been refrigerated will be rejected for culture.
