Preferred Specimen

Bone Marrow: 1 mL aspirate (sodium heparin)

Minimum Volume

Bone Marrow: 0.5mL aspirate (sodium heparin) *Minimum volume required depends on plasma cell concentration in the sample. This is the minimum volume for FISH only. Karyotype requires 0.5- 1.0 mL of its own.

Instructions

Place in cytogenetics bucket near chemistry.

Transport Temperature

Ambient or refrigerated (prolonged transport conditions) NEVER FROZEN

Specimen Stability

Bone Marrow:: Ambient(preferred), Refrigerated (acceptable) NEVER FROZEN

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)

Insufficient or clotted sample, more than 4 days old when received in laboratory.

Fluorescent In Situ Hybridization (FISH) (Panel includes the following probes: D13S319, TP53, CKSIB/CDKN2C, Hyperdisplidy (+5, +9, +15), IGH, IGH/FGFR3, IGH/CCNDI, IGH/MAF, IGH/MYC, IGH/MAFB)

Samples processed Monday through Saturday. Results reported
Monday through Friday
