Lithium Heparin (PST)


Instructions
Place sample on ice immediately after collection and deliver to lab. If unable to immediately deliver, spin and freeze plasma. Notate lithium heparin plasma on pour of tube.


Transport Temperature
Sample on ice.


Specimen Stability
3 hours at 2-4 C or 24 hours at -20 C.


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Icteric: 24mg/dL bilirubin


Methodology
Enzymatic kinetic, Glutamate dehydrogenase

Reference Range
9.0-35 umol/L


Clinical Significance
Elevated levels of ammonia may be either due to: (i) Inborn errors of metabolism; or (ii) Secondary to other
conditions
