Preferred Specimen
3 grams tissue, or abscess or deep wound or 3 mL body fluid submitted in an Anaerobic transport gel vial


Minimum Volume
1 gram or 1 mL


Other Acceptable Specimens
2 swabs submitted in Amies gel transport medium (blue-top), or ESwab (white-cap) (see instructions)


Instructions
3 mL, or 3 grams, or 2 swabs abscess or Deep Wound or Tissue or Normally sterile body fluids other than blood or bronchoscopic specimens obtained by the Double Lumen Brush technique or suprapubic urine aspirates obtained from bladder or Nephrostomy tube or suprapubic catheterization or Aspirated pus from deep wound or abscess or tympanocentesis fluid or Genital specimens from these sites only: -cul-de-sac aspiration -culdocentesis -percutaneous transfundal aspiration or Genital specimens from these sites only: fallopian tube, surgical specimens, exudates collected in a Anaerobic transport gel vial for fluid and tissue specimens or Anaerobic transport swab with Amies gel (blue-cap) or ESwab (white-cap).
