This test is offered as an add on to the CDIFFGDH test when indicated. This test can be ordered as a standalone test for the clinic/ outpatient sites. For the acute hospital setting this test should only be run after a CDIFFGDH is performed. If CDIFFGDH as not been ordered yet, please order this test first.

Preferred Specimen
5 mL unpreserved liquid or soft stool in a sterile container.
Stool sample must be of a consistency to conform to the shape of the container, all others will be rejected.


Minimum Volume
2 mL

Transport Temperature
  • Frozen is the preferred transport temperature for Western Division sites.
    • Specimen may be compromised or cancelled due to specimen stability constraints if sent at a transport temperature other than frozen.
  • Refrigerated or frozen is the preferred transport temperature for AZ sites.


Specimen Stability
Room temperature: 48 hours (specimens stored above 25° C are not acceptable)
Refrigerated (
2-8° C): 5 days
Frozen (≤ -
20° C): 31 days


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
  • Formed stool
  • Patient age < 1 month
  • Stool in preservative or mixed with urine
  • Foreign objects in container
