The American Diabetes Association recommends A1C testing every 3 months. For patients who are under good control and not changing their therapy, an A1C every 6 months may be acceptable.

Clinical Significance
The level of HgbA1c is proportional to the level of blood glucose over a period of approximately two
months. Thus, HgbA1c is accepted as an indicator of the mean of daily blood glucose concentration over
the preceding two months. Studies have shown that the clinical values obtained through regular
measurement of HgbA1c lead to changes in diabetes treatment and improvement of metabolic control
as indicated by a lowering of HgbA1c values.
The American Diabetes Association recommends measurement of HgbA1c levels two to four times per
year, less frequently with stable control.
