Instructions
None - Special Blood Bank Identification process is not required for Duffy phenotype. However, specimens collected without the Blood Bank Identification process cannot be used later for crossmatch testing.
Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Patient transfused with red cell containing blood products in the past 90 days.
Clinical Significance
The Duffy-null phenotype causes a naturally lower absolute neutrophil count (ANC) than standard ranges. It is desirable that we test HemOnc patients with unexplained low ANC for the Duffy (FY) phenotype.
