Preferred Specimen
Preferred: 1 GenProbe APTIMA 2 Combo Swab (blue) of endocervix or male urethra; Acceptable: 20-30 mLs first stream urine in GenProbe APTIMA 2 Combo Urine container or ThinPrep vial
Instructions
Urine: Collect first-strem, not mid-stream. Transfer 2 mLs from sterile urine cup into GenProbe urine transport tube using disposable pipette provided in the kit. Patient should not have urinated at least 1 hour prior to collection.

GenProbe APTIMA 2 Combo Swab or urine in GenProbe APTIMA 2 Combo Urine container

Room temperature
Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Genital swabs will be rejected if no swab in transport container, 2 swabs in container, and/or swabs other than GenProbe swab in container.
Limitations
The APTIMA Combo 2 Assay is not approved for the evaluation of suspected sexual abuse or for other medico-legal indications.
