10 grams or 10 mL stool preserved in 10% formalin or 10 grams or 10 mL fresh stool in Total-Fix® transport vial


Patient Preparation
Stool must not contain residual barium from diagnostic tests

Minimum Volume
5 grams or 5 mL


Instructions
Transfer stool within 30 minutes of collection into suitable vial. Fill to the line on the transport vial.

Clinical Significance
Cyclospora cayetanensis and Isospora belli are coccidian parasites which cause malaise, low grade fever, and diarrhea. Fatigue, anorexia, vomiting, myalgia and weight loss occur. The clinical presentation for those patients infected with either disease is similar.
