LOW MOLECULAR WEIGHT HEPARIN ANTI-XA (LMWHXA)
Test CodeLAB8443
CPT Codes
85520
Preferred Specimen
Blue top tube
Minimum Volume
BD Vacutainer® tubes have a minimum volume line molded on the tube, and the sample is unacceptable when the meniscus of the blood is below the molded line.
Instructions
- Deliver to laboratory as soon as possible. Specimen must be centrifuged within an hour.
- Avoid drawing specimens from IV-lines or arterial lines, as they may become contaminated with heparin or the specimen may be diluted. If unavoidable, the IV must be turned off for at least 2 minutes and a minimum of 5 mL blood must be drawn as a discard prior to drawing the specimen to be tested. Central lines containing heparin must be flushed with 5 mL saline and then 5 mL blood must be discarded. Specimens should also be clearly marked with this information, and the appropriate comment added to the test results.
Transport Container
Plastic screw-capped vial
Transport Temperature
Frozen on dry ice
Specimen Stability
2 weeks at -20 C.
Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Specimen not centrifuged within 1 hour of collection; centrifuged but not tested within 4 hours; specimen clotted or grossly hemolyzed.
Reference Range
Enoxaparin therapeutic range:
0.60 - 1.00 IU/mL for 12 hour dosing
1.00 - 2.00 IU/mL for 24 hour dosing
Results for sample drawn 4 hours post dose.
Patients on Unfractionated Heparin will have elevated results.
0.60 - 1.00 IU/mL for 12 hour dosing
