Preferred Specimen
1 mL plasma

Fill tube completely and keep stoppered at all times. Place on ice and transport to lab immediately. For Outreach and other non-hospital locations, centrifuge and separate plasma within 20 minutes. Keep on ice at all times during processing. Separate plasma and send frozen on dry ice.

Transport Container
Preferred (Kennestone, Windy Hill): Pink on ice; Preferred (Cobb, Douglas, Paulding): Lavender on ice
Both are acceptable at all locations.

Transport Temperature
Keep on ice. Do not freeze unless sending from non-hospital location.

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Specimen not received on ice (in hospital) or frozen on dry ice (outreach or non-hospital location).

Reference Range
Female: 11-51 umol/L;
Male: 16-60 umol/L
